DNSU urges heightened security

DIMAPUR, JULY 23 (MExN): The Dimapur Naga Students' Union (DNSU) on Wednesday expressed deep concern over the potential influx of illegal immigrants into Nagaland in the wake of the ongoing eviction drive in neighbouring Assam.

Citing the long and porous inter-state boundary shared between Nagaland and Assam, the DNSU said there is growing apprehension that displaced persons may attempt to cross into Nagaland, particularly through vulnerable areas in the bordering districts.

“Such unregulated movement poses serious risks to the demographic balance, security, and socio-political stability of Nagaland,” the Union stated.

Calling for immediate action, the DNSU urged the State Government to enhance security along all border areas, with particular attention to vulnerable entry points and critical transit hubs such as the Dimapur railway station, which could be used by undocumented individuals to enter the state.

The Union called for the deployment of adequate security personnel and strengthening of surveillance mechanisms to prevent any unauthorized infiltration. Further, it directed all subordinate units to remain vigilant and to closely coordinate with local village councils, youth bodies, and law enforcement agencies to monitor and report any suspicious movement or settlement.

“We also appeal to the general public to remain alert and report any unfamiliar individuals or groups arriving in their localities without valid documentation,” it added.
