Do away with interview system in SSB: ACAUT

Dimapur, June 17 (MExN): ACAUT Nagaland on Wednesday welcomed the state government’s assurance to set up a Staff Selection Board (SSB) within a month, to oversee the selection of all the non-gazetted posts in the state.

The assurance was given during a meeting between the Naga Students’ Federation, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and his council of Ministers earlier on June 15.

However, despite the victory in the “long fought battle” for the SSB, ACAUT Secretary Hetoi Chishi and Co-Chairman Simon Kelio put across a word of caution that the SSB should do away with the ‘interview system.’

“The SSB should conduct only the written examination for the purpose of selection of candidates. If the SSB carries interview marks, it will definitely go the NPSC way where for the last 3 and half decades it continues to be plagued by allegations of favoritism and corruption,” the release stated.

It also put on record that “the credit for the formation of the two most important bodies in the state since statehood – the Lokayukta and the SSB, goes to the former CM TR Zeliang and the incumbent CM Neiphiu Rio respectively.”
