Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, Kesonyu Yhome IAS has pointed out that the economic statistics of the State was growing at a healthy annual growth rate of 10.5% which he termed it as “a very healthy rate compared to any other state in the country.” He quoted the 2015-16 Economic Survey of Nagaland.
“This is a positive indicator but just because our statistics are healthy do we see the translation on the ground? Have we seen all round development in our society? Probably not,” he maintained and pointed to the road conditions of advanced districts of the state as a mere example
Further, Kesonyu added, “In fact, the divide between the haves and haves not is growing bigger by the day. In other words the resources of the state are being confined to only a small section of the community whereas the large section of the community is waiting for the resources to come and then receive it.”
The DC who was speaking as the chief guest during the Silver Jubilee celebrations of Students’ Union of Public College of Commerce (SUPCC) at IMC Hall, Dimapur also emphasized on the importance of skilling oneself in this competitive age.
He said that the most important aspect that the employers were looking for was specialization and skill. “People sitting on the streets may not have educational qualification but they have employment opportunities. As you graduate it is important that you equip yourself with skills because without skills there is absolutely no market for you,” he told the students.
Pointing out that there were 65,000 registered educated unemployed youth, Kesonyu expressed concern that students passing out from prestigious institutions should not become a part of the growing number of registered list. Earlier, the chief guest released the frame of jubilee plaque and souvenir.
Principal of Public College of Commerce, Dimapur, A.K. Talukdar also spoke at the programme. Songs, dances, dramas and other entertainment items marked the jubilee celebration. A new team of SUPCC office bearers were also elected to be led by Tohuka Ayemi as President and Lemba Y as General Secretary.
