Do not delay implementation of ILP due to RIIN: NSF to Govt

DIMAPUR, JULY 31 (MExN): The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has listed out a series of demands for the Nagaland government to execute on the issue of illegal immigrants.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, the Federation, in the first, said the state government should not mix the Register of Indigenous Inhabitant of Nagaland (RIIN) with the ILP regime as the RIIN issues is under the consideration of the committee set up by the government itself.

It said the government should not further delay the implementation of ILP due to RIIN or any other reasons whatsoever.
It said the government should implement the ILP regime in Dimapur district in toto and at the same time endorsed the Abhishek Singh recommendation for the ILP regime implementation in Dimapur district.

While asking the government to envisage an effective mechanism to protect all genuine citizens, it said a time bound period should be set for the ILP regime implementation effective immediately.

Also urging the government to strictly implement the mechanism based on the previous propositions of the Federation submitted through various representations and memorandums, it, at length, asked the government to exercise the political will to deliver on its commitment.

Successive govt miserably
failed to execute ILP diligently

While listing out these demands, the Federation contented that the successive governments has miserably failed to implement and execute the ILP diligently and sincerely for more than 6 decades but instead allowed the racket to flourish all through the years.

There is no better document to regulate the flow of tourists and control the influx of illegal immigrants than the ILP. However, ILP needs a “tough honest government run by tough honest leaders, tough honest bureaucracy backed by tough honest public,” the Federation stated.

And in the midst of bizarre claims on Dimapur in the present day, the Federation said the government need to act with all earnestness.

The Federation also sought to point out that with support of its federating units; it has been extensively conducting verification of Inner Line Permit (ILP) holders in various districts in the past many years.

“We are often perturbed that the enforcement of the ILP in the state has not been properly implemented and the influx of illegal Immigrants is posing as the biggest demographic threat to the indigenous inhabitants of the state,” the Federation stated.

Rest of Nagaland will follow
if Dimapur is compromised

Stating that the lack of stringent implementation of the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation (BERF) 1873 and the exclusion of Dimapur District from the purview of ILP have made the Dimapur district a safe haven for illegal immigrants, the Federation maintained that an overwhelming population of people with questionable identities are inhabiting Dimapur District which is evident as most of them do not possess any documents of their identification proof.

The Federation also apprehended that if Dimapur is allowed to be converted to a melting pot, overwhelmed by people with questionable identities, “the rest of Nagaland in particular and the North Eastern hills will be illegally dominated, threatening our identity, culture and our very survival and resulting in societal destruction.”

Nagaland is too small and its population little to handle this undeniable threat to the extent where our society could easily be plunged into refugees in our own land, it therefore pointed out.

Meanwhile, the Federation informed that it has directed its federating units to effectively carry out its responsible role of monitoring and verifying any matter related to this issue.

It also put on record that the Federation shall carry out checking and verification at any time and in the event where any defaulters are detected immediate action shall be carried out.
