A rumour surrounding the medical status of Nagaland's first COVID-19 case was dispelled today. According to a doctor, who quoted specialists at the Guwahati Medical College & Hospital, the patient is COVID-19 positive as officially announced earlier.

There was a post on social media, which circulated on April 16, claiming that the patient may not be COVID-19 positive and that the GMCH had given a wrong report about his test result. It also went on to claim that he was treated for liver cirrhosis and did not show COVID-19 symptoms.

As per the latest update from the GMCH, the patient's condition was stable as on 10:00 am, Friday, and set for a second COVID-19 test in about two days.

While reiterating that he tested positive for COVID-19 and has an underlying blood condition, the doctor said that the social media report that "he has Chronic Liver Disease and COVID-19 negative is false."

However, this is per the existing protocol as the sample and testing were both done in Assam, it was added to the its tally.

“The Positive case of Nagaland have been added to the tally of Assam State as sampling was done in Assam. The patient is admitted in Guwahati Medical College Hospital,” (sic) stated the Department of H&FW, Nagaland daily COVID -19 Bulletin on April 15.
