Doctors must retain the ‘Human Touch’

DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 24 (MExN): The State Minister for PHED, Dr K Ngangshi Ao, as the chief guest today, lauded the Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR) as it observed its 5th Year Anniversary at their Campus in Dimapur.

The chief guest pointed out that the report, which was earlier delivered by the Director of CIHSR, Dr Abraham Joseph was proof enough that the institution had a number of committed and loyal workers which will take them very far. He mentioned that during the 60’s, the dream of setting up a medical institution and referral hospital in the State had just begun. He went on to express his gratitude to the founders, the board members and the staff for having salvaged the dream.

Dr Ngangshi Ao further said that the medical practitioners today are fortunate that machines have made their work a lot easier but he reminded the Doctors not to lose the “Human Touch”. He stressed on the importance of cultivating a holistic approach to tackle problems because a patient does not only come with physical ailments but as a whole individual.

Niketu Iralu, the guest of honour, in his speech said that what CIHSR had achieved so far was very admirable and that their ‘stepping out in faith’ and ‘carrying out their convictions’ have left people inspired. Speaking on the topic of ‘Building a better future’, he stressed on the importance of cultivating the method that Jesus had used to establish God’s Kingdom on earth: Giving bread and fish, not stones and serpents to others. He went on to say that, if we practice ‘Transparency’ and ‘Honesty’, we will begin to have true fellowship with one another.

Quoting Edmund Burke, Niketu Iralu said, “Example is the school of mankind, and they will learn at no other”. He further stated that the Campus is playing a crucial role in the society and believed that the Campus is “A little kingdom of God on Earth” as Dr Sedevi Angami had pointed out in his Welcome address.

Banuo Z Jamir, Additional Chief Secretary and Commissioner also congratulated the Institution on behalf of the Government and the citizens of Nagaland. She stated that CISHR opened a chapter on the fulfillments and aspirations of the State. She announced that the institution was the first successful Public Private Partnership (PPP) venture; that it served as a role model for other states as well. She reassured them of the Government’s support and also spoke about the three medical interventions which included PPP with CIHSR, Community Medical Service at Tuensang and Medicine without frontiers in Mon.

The event also saw the presentations of songs and recognition of meritorious service to the institution. Dr Temsula Alinger delivered the vote of thanks and Reverend Wati Aier pronounced the benediction.
