Longleng and Zunheboto team along with Wokha team at Chudi village during SPEED review programme.
Dimapur, February 12 (MExN): A two day inter district visit with the objective on knowledge sharing and new learning for Longleng and Zunheboto was hosted by Department of Land Resources (DoLR), Wokha district on February 9 and 10.
The visiting team with a total of 15 members led by Longleng District Project Officer (DPO), K Kughalu Chishi and Zunheboto DPO, Vikugha Kiba with 10 members from Wokha led by DPO, Teounol Yore toured Yikhum village, Wokha village, Doyang, Asha, Meshangpen and culminated at Chudi village.
The Wokha DPO in a press release stated that on visit to Yikhum village project site rubber plantation, both DPOs of Longleng and Zunheboto apprised of the vision of the DoLR to the farmers. Both the DPOs on observation pointed out that the low cost rubber smoke house practiced was very impressive and should be replicated and encouraged them to keep on learning and requested the farmers to nurture with love and care through expertise sharing among each other.
The touring team visited coffee plantation at Wokha village, Doyang and Asha village. During, a short halt at Doyang Hydro Electric Dam, they had interaction with few fishermen. They also visited a rubber plantation at Meshangpen village and held interaction with the farmers.
The tour was culminated at Chudi Village after a visit of springshed activities, transit walk for review of SPEED programme activities and a view of 9.50 km stretch of rubber plantation covering six micro-watershed including Chudi, Longtsung and Morakjo village from Chudi aerial view point. After a visit to rubber plantation site, an interaction hour was done with the rubber farmers.
During interaction it was learned that at Chudi village, a total of 129 household have rubber plantation covering an area of 145 hectare. At present there are 30215 numbers of tapping trees with an annual harvest of 45000-50000 kgs of rubber sheets. A total of 74 household are presently tapping rubber and as per the recorded status for the year 2020. They have an annual income of Rs 50 lakhs to 55 lakhs.
