‘Don’t ask for Money, ask for Development’: The Naga Blog

Dimapur, January 7 (MExN): In a bid to promote an “objective approach towards politics” during the upcoming Nagaland Legislative Assembly elections, members of The Naga Blog comprising of young professionals held meetings with the Presidents of the two major political parties in Nagaland - Shurhozelie (President, NPF) and S.I. Jamir (President, NPCC) to promote their awareness campaign “Don’t ask for Money, ask for Development”. Through this campaign the Naga Bloggers have made an appeal to all citizens “not to ask for money during elections but to ask their respective parties and candidates for their vision and plans to develop our villages, towns and cities”. It aims to encourage the new generation to understand the real essence of being a voter.

The Naga Blog members, through an online meet, drafted a list of questions that has been sent out to all major political parties in Nagaland namely – NPF, Congress, BJP, JD(U), NCP, TMC and RJD—to get a better understanding of their party vision and roadmap on core issues.

In this regard, 10 questions have been formulated for which the Blog is seeking replies from the political parties on corruption, politics, the prohibition act, illegal immigration of Bangladeshis, education, healthcare, development, electricity, special needs, and industries and employment. This, they say, will help in “analytical assessment and constructive criticism” that will encourage cooperation, transparency and accountability towards building a “collective mindset of rationality” and “a spirit of innovation” without considering money as the primary objective of life.

All parties have been requested to send their answers by January 16 to thenagablog@gmail.com and join their debates on www.facebook.com/groups/thenagablog.
