MALIGAON, SEPTEMBER 3 (MExN): The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) has successfully completed the mandatory inspection of the newly laid 6.22-kilometer double line section between Sorbhog and Barpeta Road on September 3.
This inspection was crucial to ensure the safety, security, and operational efficiency of the new railway infrastructure before passenger and freight services begin.
This section is part of the larger New Bongaigaon – Agthori via Rangiya doubling project, which spans 142.97 kilometers. The Sorbhog to Barpeta Road stretch includes a major bridge with a span of 319.9 meters and one manned level crossing gate. The double line was commissioned with electrification.
During the inspection, the CRS evaluated the railway bridge, track fittings, P-way assets, electronic inter-locking systems, relay rooms, and level crossings. The readiness of the staff for train operations was also assessed.
To date, 108.68 kilometers of the total 142.97-kilometer project has been commissioned. Sections previously completed include 17.53 kilometers from New Bongaigaon to Bijni, 26.91 kilometers from Pathsala to Nalbari, 18.99 kilometers from Bijni to Sorbhog, 7.48 kilometers from Changsari to Agthori, 10.15 kilometers from Baihata to Changsari, and 21.40 kilometers from Barpeta Road to Pathsala.
The 6.22 kilometers between Sorbhog and Barpeta Road was also commissioned today.
Ongoing work includes the 31.828-kilometer section between Nalbari and Baihata. Once the entire project is complete, it will significantly enhance regional train connectivity by reducing crossing times and accommodating increased freight and passenger traffic, thereby boosting economic activity along the New Bongaigaon – Agthori via Rangiya route.
