Kohima, March 17 (MExN): The monthly meeting of District Planning & Development Board (DPDB) Kohima on March 16 reviewed progress on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) indicators, public service delivery, and key urban development initiatives.

Addressing the meeting chaired by MLA and Chairman Kevipodi Sophie, the Deputy Commissioner Kohima, B Henok Buchem called on all departments to remain proactive in updating SDG-related data.

While noting encouraging progress at the state level, he stressed that several indicators still require focused attention and improvement.

The Deputy Commissioner also emphasised the importance of early preparedness for the upcoming monsoon season.

To this end, he proposed a coordinated pre-monsoon exercise involving all departments and urged officials to ensure adequate workforce and resources, particularly for vulnerable stretches along national highways.

A district-wide mass social work has also been scheduled for April 4.

He further apprised the board that reports and submissions on issues raised in previous DPDB meetings, including those concerning national highways, have already been forwarded to the relevant authorities.

Addressing concerns over supply, he clarified that the interruptions reported in recent days were due to server slowdowns caused by increased online traffic and said officials from Indian Oil Corporation have assured that technical teams are working to resolve the issue.

Highlighting urban development initiatives, Deputy Director, Urban Development, Kiniholi Kinimi, informed that schemes such as the Prime Minister Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) and the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana–National Urban Livelihoods Mission are being implemented to support urban livelihoods in Kohima.

Nearly 968 street vendors, most of them women, have availed loans under the programme. Temporary vending zones have also been created, with efforts underway to identify improved spaces to ease congestion in the town. The department also presented details of roads under its maintenance within the urban area.

Meanwhile, the District Planning Officer informed that a stakeholder consultation workshop for the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision document will be held in April 2026.

Departments will participate in five thematic groups with technical support from the Nagaland Institute of Transformation, as per the proceedings of the meetings provided by the State DIPR.
