Peren, March 6 (MExN): The monthly meeting of the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB), Peren, was held at the DC’s Conference Hall on March 6 under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Hiazu Meru.

On the agenda pertaining to the National Highways Act 1956 for construction of national highways in Nagaland, the DC informed the house that a proposal had been received from the Works and Housing Department. Stating that the matter required wider consultation, he directed the tribal bodies — Naga Zeliang People Organisation (NZPO) and Kuki Inpi Nagaland — to deliberate on the issue with other stakeholders and submit their views for further consideration.

On the proposal for declaring Peren as a Green District Headquarters, the DC briefed the house on the concept behind the initiative and said that once declared, efforts would be made to preserve trees, plants and wildlife. He added that the district would also work towards formulating its own policy and explore funding sources in coordination with the Urban Development Department Nagaland.

After deliberation, the house approved the proposal and assured cooperation for its implementation.

The board also agreed to a proposal for creation of a police outpost at the district headquarters to strengthen security and enforcement mechanisms.

Deliberating on an application for construction of a spring well or reservoir, the house decided to refer the proposal to the Land Resources Department Nagaland for further examination.

The DC also highlighted issues regarding irregular attendance of government officials in Jalukie sub-division, as reported by the Jalukie Town Council during a recent meeting. He directed heads of offices to ensure that officers and staff posted in sub-divisions remain regular at their respective places of posting. Administrative officers at the sub-divisional level would also be instructed to supervise and monitor attendance of government employees, he added.

Meru further informed that the Deputy Chief Minister had recently sought details of departments that do not have their own office buildings or residential quarters at the district headquarters. He urged such departments to submit details for onward submission to the government for necessary action.

Referring to the Orchid Festival held at Peren town and organised by the Peren Town Women Welfare Organisation (PTWWO), the DC directed the District Horticulture Officer to prepare a proper action plan to promote orchid cultivation and explore possible collaboration with the School of Agricultural Sciences and Rural Development (SASRD).

Executive Engineer of the Power Department Tsiamchi Ndang highlighted various initiatives and schemes undertaken by the department. He encouraged government departments to utilise subsidies provided by the central government and informed that installation of smart meters in government offices would begin shortly. In this regard, heads of offices were requested to clear outstanding electricity dues before installation.

Principal of Government Polytechnic Peren, Neikhrove Pfuno, also apprised the house of challenges faced by the institution, particularly regarding road connectivity and water supply, and sought support from the DPDB members.

On the issue of road connectivity, the DC directed the principal to submit a written letter to be taken up with the Executive Engineer of Public Works Department Nagaland (R&B) and the concerned construction firm. Regarding water supply, the principal was asked to submit a proposal to be forwarded to the Urban Development Department for necessary action.

The Chief Medical Officer of Peren also highlighted the ongoing nationwide HPV vaccination campaign recently launched for girls aged 14 years to protect against cervical cancer and other HPV-related diseases.
