DIMAPUR, JULY 26 (MExN): The recently launched Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) today expressed serious concern at the expose and revelation of a “huge scam and corruption network in the police department that has been unearthed in the aftermath of the raids on MKR Pillai.”
“The sequence of event reveals the extent of misappropriations and corruption that has existed in the police department all these years, and the fact of the matter is that this is only a tip of the iceberg. It is no secret that such corruption and financial scams continue to take place unabated in many departments, and Nagaland has been engulfed under a culture of corruption, favoritism and nepotism,” the DPP said in a press note today.
It said that the time has come to combat and remove these “social evils from our society and all sections must unite to collectively take the bull by the horns and bring it down.”
The DPP demanded immediate institution of an independent inquiry and investigation on all antecedents of MKR Pillai, “revelation of all the corruption and the loot that has taken place, punishment to every person who has stolen public funds and restoration of all the losses to the State exchequer.”
“Unless an effective investigation is successfully concluded, faith and confidence in the system cannot be restored and mere removal of Pillai from his post is definitely not enough,” it added.
The DPP held a general body meeting today at Nousi Auditorium, Niathu Resort, Chumukedima, Dimapur and adopted several resolutions.
It declared support to the ongoing peace process and appealed to the negotiating parties of the Indo-Naga political dialogue, especially the Government of India (GoI), to expedite the political talks and bring about an early solution that is honorable, acceptable and wholesome, keeping in mind the unique history of the Naga people and the acceptance that the issue is political in nature. The DPP also appealed to all sections of Naga National Political Groups to heed to the call of the Naga people and come together under a spirit of unity, brotherhood and cooperation.
The DPP also congratulated Khango Konyak on being elected as the President of the NSCN (K), and appealed to return to the negotiating table and the ceasefire. “Ever since the abrogation of ceasefire between Government of India and NSCN (K), the innocent people, especially those living in the far flung districts and along the international boundary have been subjected to immense sufferings. Precious lives have been lost and the people have been adversely impacted due to violence and bloodshed. Both the Government of India (GoI) and the NSCN (K) must make every effort to listen to the voice of the people and sign a ceasefire agreement so that all sections can collectively work towards realization of peace,” it added.
The DPP further welcomed the initiative of the Church and civil society in launching the clean election campaign and affirmed its full support to the initiative. It meanwhile congratulated both the outgoing President of India Pranab Mukherjee and the new President Ram Nath Kovind and wished them well.
