Dimapur, March 1 (MExN): A three-day international seminar titled “Living World: Education of Past, Present and Future” was held at Rajiv Gandhi University from February 16 to 18, bringing together academicians, researchers and policymakers from different parts of the world to deliberate on transformative shifts in education.

The seminar featured 174 research presentations across 16 technical sessions, covering a wide range of themes from Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) to higher education.

Among the distinguished panelists, Dr Chubaienla Imchen, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Economics at Jubilee Memorial College, presented a paper titled “Rethinking Education and Employability in the Northeast Region: Special Reference to Nagaland.”

In her presentation, Dr Imchen highlighted the growing concern of unemployment in Nagaland and the wider Northeast, pointing out that although educational attainment has improved significantly over the years, it has not translated proportionately into employment opportunities. She noted that excessive dependence on limited government jobs has resulted in intense competition, describing it as a narrow pathway for the vast number of youth entering the labour market annually.

Emphasising the way forward, Dr Imchen advocated early career guidance at school and college levels, expansion of skill development and entrepreneurship centres, and strengthening of startup ecosystems. She also called for a cultural shift from a “government job waiting room” mindset to a dynamic “workshop culture” that promotes skills, innovation and entrepreneurship, encouraging youth to become job creators rather than job seekers.

The participation of Dr Imchen at the international seminar reflected how faculty members of Jubilee Memorial College are increasingly stepping beyond local boundaries to represent the institution at national and international forums. The college community expressed pride and honour in witnessing its faculty contribute meaningfully to global academic discourse.
