MLA Dr. Neisatuo Mero today said that the progress in the field of education, technology and economy, can shape “our future and make our life more purposeful.”

“In the midst of all those advancements and power in technologies, it can be at times detrimental for our society if it is not used in a right direction,” Dr. Mero said while addressing the 67th General Session of the Zuketsa Students’ Union (ZSU) at Zuketsa in Phek district under the theme “Reclaiming purpose, re-imagining progress for a shared future.”

Referring to the war which broke out in the recent years, wherein developed and beautiful cities are being downed in rubbles and also burned in ashes, Dr. Mero said “Technologies and war machineries and military strength should be used in the right direction. If not, it can destroy human beings with its own creation.”

Let us see the brighter side of the technologies that can ease our life and comfort us, he said.

He also enlightened the gathering about the power of science, making a special reference to Artificial Intelligence Hospital, developed by China, wherein AI doctors and nurses have potential to treat 3000 patients in a day.

You must realize in what era you are living in and you must know yourself and empower yourself in the highest form to seek education and to progress in life, Dr. Mero told the students.

Recalling that about 12,000 candidates had appeared the recent NPSC exam for 97 posts, he said that unless one gives best effort there is less chances to get through in all the exams.

He also stressed on the need to have consistency, adding that “hard work can bring us a reward.”

To those students outside the state, he said “You should not bring any disgrace to your family and also to our community.”

“Never forget your identity, your culture and your traditions. Don't forget your native place. You need to be rooted in the ancestral village,” Dr. Mero said.

‘Redouble efforts to conquer competitive exams’

Kedoutsolhi Wetsah, president, Zuketsa Area Public Organisation (ZAPO) shared greetings at the session.

Stating that employment remains a pressing concern in Nagaland, wherein the live registration data reveals around 84,625 unemployed (Census 2021), Wetsah said “These figures remind us of the urgent need for action, innovation, and self-reliance.”

He challenged the Chakhesang Students’ Union and Zuketsa Students’ Union to redouble efforts in conquering competitive exams like UPSC, NPSC and NSSB.

He also urged upon the students and youth to avoid over-dependence on public sector roles by embracing tireless hard work, skill development, entrepreneurship, and a deep-rooted cultural identity.

Let us uphold our rich heritage, speak our mother tongues with unyielding pride, and labor collectively for a sustainable, prosperous future that our ancestors would envision and our children will inherit, he added.

Earlier, ZSU president Wetekhro Therie delivered presidential address while ZSU general secretary Zhiekhwe Zhiemi and education secretary Linei-ü Kreo presented their respective reports.
