Kohima, February 17 (MExN): The election campaign of Dr. Neikiesalie Kire, NDPP’s candidate from 9th Kohima Town assembly constituency was held on February 16 at the PWD junction in Kohima with the presence of Chief Ministerial candidate of NDPP, Neiphiu Rio.
Assuring good governance and infrastructures with renewed policies and approaches, Rio expressed confidence in the NDPP-BJP alliance. Stating that the BJP had lost confidence in the NPF which has been its ally for 15 years, Rio accused the NPF of betrayal, corruption, lack of development and creating division among the public.
"The regional party (NDPP) will be the big brother while BJP will be the minor partner for which we decided on a pre-poll alliance with 40:20 seat-share." said Rio who also attempted to clarify that BJP is not a "religious party but a political party for the welfare of the public and development, and to provide more facilities and uplift the economy of the people", with further reference to Kiren Rijiju's recent speech in Mon District.
Rio assured that the party was ready to protect and defend the Naga people and their faith not through ‘compromise but standing as a defence', and further urged the voters not to get carried away by 'communal propaganda'.
"Nagas are, and will remain Christians and at the same time work consciously for the people as per the BJP led NDA Government’s development programmes." asserted Rio, citing the religious freedom ensured by the Constitution of India. The former MP further posited that the election may be an ‘election for solution.’
Dr. Neikesalie Nicky Kire expressed positivity that the alliance will bring development and better opportunities for the young, and under the leadership of Rio, the people might witness solution. Kire also requested the electorates to vote wisely for the ‘right man in the right place.’
