Kohima | November 22 : Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu has been re-elected as the President of Naga People’s Front (NPF). The recommendation of the election board for election of central office bearers of NPF was announced by election board chairman, CM Chang, Lok Sabha MP, during the 6th general conference of NPF here today at Indira Gandhi Stadium. CM Chang administered oath to the President and other central office bearers.
Dr. Liezietsu expressed gratitude to the party functionaries for reposing faith in his leadership and assured to do his best to serve the party with sincerity and devotion. Earlier, Dr. Liezietsu in his presidential address at the conference said the NPF is a regional political party with national outlook and there is no ethnic, communal or religious orientation.

‘NPF entry into Manipur and Arunachal will not alter their boundaries’
“People now talk about a ‘National Government’ or a ‘Supra State Body’. Our priorities are for the settlement of the Naga political problem, peace and development”, he said adding that come what may, “we will remain contended people by fulfilling our commitments with clear conscience.
Referring to the expansion of the NPF to neighbouring states, NPF President said that there is no law/rule to stop a recognised political party to extend its activities in any state in the country, adding because the Constitution of India guarantees to all citizens the democratic right to choose the party of their choice which can best represent them in the assembly in as much as an individual has the right to vote for the candidate of its choice.
‘For example, NPF cannot stop Congress, BJP, Trinimool Congress to Nagaland to organise their party and if it is so, it will be good for our neighbouring states to keep their future clear,” he said. On our part, the NPF chief said, “we feel we are always in good term with neighbours and we will continue to do so.”
Dr. Liezietsu said the government may come and go, leaders may come and go but our people will continue to live together as neighbours as long as our planet survives.
Dr. Liezietsu said NPF entry into Manipur and Arunachal states will not alter their boundaries. “There is nothing to be afraid of. Our only desire is to participate in their assemblies by NPF members.
He said that the general elections to the Manipur assembly is coming by the first part of next year and for which NPF Manipur unit leaders along with the central committee from the headquarters are on the move to organise the party.
Dr. Liezietsu said he has strengthened the central committee for Manipur unit by inducting more leaders. Besides, it set up election committee for the ensuring election in Manipur to organise the party at the grass root level, to identify the candidates and such other preparations necessary for election.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today said the Naga political issue continues to be at the top of the NPF and DAN government’s agenda. “We have won the peoples’ mandate to run the government on a political plank of playing the role of an active facilitator to the Naga peace process, along with an assurance that our government will make way for any alternative settlement that may come about as a result of the peace process which is honourable,” Rio said at the 6th general convention of NPF general convention here today.
Rio said the immediate challenge of NPF on the hand is the upcoming assembly elections in Manipur where it will be making its maiden entry.
Rio said the performance of the NPF in Manipur, where our Naga brothers and sisters have been facing decades of hardships and suppression, will showcase to the world how united the Nagas are.
“We need the people to come forward with courage and conviction. It is acid test which is bound to have an impact on all our upcoming elections,” Rio said. Rio said for state like Nagaland, it is vital that a regional party guides the state and the Naga people. “Only a regional party can uphold the Naga voice without any discomfort and only a regional party can promote and protect our culture, history and traditions,” Rio said.
Rio challenged the people to keep in mind that NPF is a cadre based grass root level party, having a regional identity, with a national outlook and acting globally. Rio termed the expansion of the NPF beyond the borders of Nagaland as a significant step. He said the spreading of NPF wings have already given feelings of empowerment to Naga brothers occupying Naga traditional territories, but divided by boundaries created without the consent of Naga people.
“Nagas have always wanted to come together as a people under one umbrella. Our presence in Naga areas outside Nagaland will give Naga people an opportunity to come together politically, to unite socially, culturally and emotionally,” Rio said.
Rio said though Nagas may not be able to integrate physically, the people will surely feel a sense of emotional oneness. “The NPF as a party, and the DAN as a government, will continue to stand by the demand for integration of all contiguous Naga inhabited areas under a single administered umbrella,” Rio said.
