DIMAPUR, AUGUST 18 (MExN): The Khughovi Students Union issued a statement today seeking the Chief Minister’s attention to the controversy surrounding the selection process of the Dr. T. Ao Sports Awards. A day after the Awards were handed away on August 15, charges of manipulation and discrimination were levelled against the selection process by one of the nominees, Mughato Sumi, football coach of the State Sports Academy, Dimapur.
Mughato alleged at a press conference on August 16 that he was discriminated and the selection process rigged and manipulated that resulted in him being ignored for the Awards. The government, including the selection panel and the department in concern, though has yet to respond to the allegation.
In this regard, the Khughovi Students Union has urged the CM to investigate and clear up the controversy. The union sought to know under what criteria Mughato was denied the Awards, adding, “Is it that in Nagaland results and achievements are not recognised through merit but through favouritism?”
While reiterating its appeal, it expressed hope that the CM would take up the matter on priority and let justice prevail.
