DIMAPUR, AUGUST 20 (MExN): While silence prevails in the government with regard to the controversy surrounding the Dr. T. Ao Sports Awards, appeals for the government’s intervention to clear up the matter persist.
Subsequent to the appeal made by the Kuhuboto Ghakhu Sports Association and the Khughovi Students Union to the Chief Minister to intervene, the Nikhekhu Students’ Union (NSU) issued a media statement today seeking the Governor’s attention.
The NSU held that Mughato Sumi, football coach of the Nagaland State Sports Academy, Dimapur, who was a nominee for the Awards was “denied the said award because of manipulation in the selection process.” Mughato, at a press conference on August 16, had alleged of discrimination and manipulation in the selection process that resulted in him not making it to the awardees’ list.
As a sports personality, the NSU held that Mughato has brought laurels to the state and also the country on several occasions. “If justice is denied then it will be a very big discouragement for the sports persons in the state,” the NSU added.
