Chumoukedima, November 24 (MExN): Punjab edged Uttarakhand 2-1 while Nagaland trashed Andaman and Nicobar 7-0 at the ongoing Dr T Ao Junior Girls’ National Football Championship 2025–26 (Tier 2) held at the Chumoukedima Football Stadium on November 24.
In an intense and fast-paced encounter at the Dr Talimeren Ao Junior Girls’ National Football Championship 2025–26, Punjab edged Uttarakhand 2–1, showcasing dominance in possession and attacking intent throughout the match.
Punjab captain Harmeen Kaur (Jersey No. 7) was the star of the match, scoring a decisive brace to secure three points for her side. Despite Uttarakhand taking an early lead through Khushi Pal (Jersey No. 10) in the 25th minute, Punjab mounted a strong comeback in the second half, displaying remarkable composure as Harmeen Kaur equalised in the 69th minute via a penalty kick, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way. With relentless pressure and superior ball control—holding 67% possession—Punjab continued to push forward. Their efforts were rewarded deep into added time when Harmeen struck again in the 90+1 minute, sealing a dramatic victory.
Uttarakhand, although resilient, struggled to create chances, registering only one shot on target—their lone goal. Punjab, in contrast, recorded 16 shots on target, nine corners, and consistent attacking momentum.
With this win, Punjab displayed tactical strength and leadership under their captain Harmeen Kaur, reinforcing their position as strong contenders in the championship.
Nagaland vs Andaman & Nicobar
In the second match of the day, Nagaland delivered a commanding performance in Match No 6 of the Dr Talimeren Ao Junior Girls’ National Football Championship 2025–26 (Tier 2), securing a dominant victory over Andaman & Nicobar with an emphatic attacking display and complete control across the pitch.
From the very outset, Nagaland showcased superior ball possession—recording an impressive 76%—and translated that dominance into consistent attacking pressure. Their relentless frontline, supported by well-coordinated midfield play, resulted in 15 shots on target, overwhelming the opposition defence.
Catherine set the tone early with a confident finish in the 11th minute, doubling her tally shortly in the 25th minute. Zemloi added another goal from the spot at the 29th minute. Sentinaro followed with an exceptional hat-trick, including a well-taken penalty in the 78th minute that further widened the gap, reflecting Nagaland’s clinical approach. Charakungliu sealed the game with a late strike at 86th minute, capping off a dominant team performance.
Despite Andaman & Nicobar’s best efforts, their limited 24% possession and only three shots on target could not trouble Nagaland’s organized backline.
