Wokha vs Phek
DIMAPUR, AUGUST 6 (MExN): The 24th Inter-District Football Championship for the Dr T Ao Trophy 2025 witnessed another thrilling day of football action on August 6 at the Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima, with four crucial group stage matches played across the day.
In the opening fixture, Peren came from behind to defeat Tseminyu 2-1 in a hard-fought contest. Japhet Kath gave Tseminyu the lead in the 22nd minute, but Peren staged a strong second-half comeback through a brace from Nrakhak, who scored in the 64th and 70th minutes. With the win, Peren continue their impressive form and are now well-placed to finish in the top two of their group.
In the second match, Zunheboto cruised to a convincing 3-0 victory over Shamator, keeping their hopes alive for the knockout phase.
Goals came from Pulovi in the 30th minute, Vinato in the 37th, and Tokiba in the 59th, sealing a comfortable win for the side, who now look to carry the momentum forward.
Wokha edged past Phek 3-2 in a five-goal thriller that kept the crowd on edge throughout. Yisanbemo opened the scoring for Wokha in the 19th minute, followed by goals from Tsentselong in the 46th and Renjamo in the 57th minute. Phek mounted a late resurgence with two quick goals by Veporayi in the 65th and during stoppage time at 70+1’, but it wasn’t enough to overturn the deficit. The result sets up an exciting final round in Group C, with Wokha very much in contention.
In the last fixture of the day, Dimapur produced a clinical performance to defeat Longleng 3-0 and secure all three points. Mangkholen opened the scoring in the 30th minute, followed by a goal from Rukuwe in added time of the first half (35+1’), while Zarenthung sealed the win in the 48th minute. The clean sheet win boosts Dimapur’s campaign as the tournament heads into decisive rounds.
