Dr T Ao Trophy (Day 2): Peren, Tseminyu, Kohima register win

On the second day of Dr T Ao Trophy 2022, the first match between Peren District Football Association and Football Association Noklak District, ruthless Peren blanked Noklak by 5-0 to start their campaign in style. 

Ratobe N Poireng with a brace, while Kenumdi Winamthiu and Zumzum Punyü adding a goal each for the team. Peren team were three goals up within the 19 minutes of the match. They showed their class with playmaker Khiuwangbo Kaurintah taking the center stage as they made an easy win in the first match. 

Noklak team were unable to penetrate in the first match finding not much opportunity as they succumbed to defeat.

Debutant Shamator District Football Association and Longleng District Football Association ended in a goalless draw with both teams sharing a point each in the second match. 

A match that poised equally between the team had numerous opportunities to find the back of the net but it was not their day to find the net.

Debutant team Shamator fought bravely but couldn't register themselves a goal in their first match. While Longleng team would be optimistic to improvise their upcoming matches as they were left undone in their finishing. It's all fair and square for both teams at the end of the final whistle. 

In the third match of the day, Yhunshalo Kemp scored five goals as Football Association Tseminyu District thrashed Zunheboto District Football Association 6-0 in a rain soak match. 

Tseminyu striker Yhunshalo Kemp becomes the first hat-trick scorer of the tournament scoring five goals in the match. 

Rain played spoilsport in the third match as the players played in the wet ground as soon as the match started. Tseminyu team opened their account in 6th minute through Ntsenlo Semp, Yhunshalo Kemp completed his hat-trick in 13 minutes with his goal coming in 17th, 19th and 34th minute. He went on to score two more goals in the second half in 38th and 50th minute. 

Zunheboto team gave no response as Tseminyu team finished the match 5-0 at the end of the final whistle. 

Kohima District Football Association upset host team Mokokchung District Football Association by a solitary goal in the last match of the day. Kohima forward Vilhoubeituo Yhome scored the only goal in the 57th minute.

Mokokchung opened strongly and gave the crowd a voice to encourage their home team in front of a packed stadium as the hosts played their first match of the trophy. They were, however, undone by their finishing. Kohima had some time to settle in, but they found their stride in the second half.

The Kohima squad also demanded a goal for a free kick, but it was denied. In the 57th minute, Kohima forward Yhome scored a stunning goal by latching on to a loose ball and striking into an empty net, deafening the crowd. Mokokchung failed to make an impact with their finishing, as Kohima gained control of the game and held on to the lead until the final whistle. 

Kevisanyu of Kohima and Temsunungsang of Mokokchung were cautioned with a yellow card each.
