DRI & AR seize large cache of drugs

DIMAPUR, APRIL 3 (MExN): The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) along with the Assam Rifles seized 3,20,000 Methamphetamine tablets, weighing 36.5 kgs in Manipur on April 2.  

A press note from the DRI informed that the seizure was made at Tengnoupal in Manipur. The tablets popularly known as ‘World is Yours’ (WY) were found concealed in a secret cavity made under the driver’ seat and co-driver’ seat of a bus coming from Moreh.  

A total of 3,20,000 tablets weighing 36.55kgs were recovered. This large cache of drugs was smuggled into India through the India-Myanmar border and was being transported from Moreh and was supposed to proceed to Lilong, the DRI stated. One Mohammad Iliyas Khan has been arrested under the provisions of NDPS Act 1985.  

The DRI stated that methamphetamines are being manufactured in the Golden Triangle region, particularly in the labs in Myanmar. Pseudoephedrine Hydrochloride, a common cold drug is the precursor chemical that is used for its manufacturing, it added.
