Dimapur, June 22 (MExN): June month is observed as ‘Anti-Malaria Month’ to take preventive measures across the State against the outbreak of malaria and other vector-borne diseases. Advocacy workshops are being conducted in various places in the State in observance of Anti-Malaria months.

Mokokchung: Mokokchung district observed Anti Malaria month by organizing district level advocacy workshop on Malaria today at Ongpangkong Salang.
Delivering his keynote address Dr. SS Akaba Dy. CMO Mokokchung mentioned that among the communicable disease malaria is a chronic disease which should be treated at the earliest. He called upon to take the responsibility and participate in controlling the spread of Malaria.
Dr. Lima District Programme Officer (NVBDCP) Mokokchung highlighted the activities of the NVBDCP in the district. He also said that though our ways of living change maintenance of sanitation and sewage is poor which led to the spread of malaria. He disclosed the three diseases spread by mosquitoes which are common in Nagaland –Malaria, Japanese Encephalitis and Dengue. Protection from mosquitoes and Mosquito reduction should be everyone’s concern stated Dr. Lima during the advocacy workshop. He also added that Community should not only depend on the department but should take initiatives in controlling malaria.
The advocacy workshop was attended by Public leaders, Church leaders and teachers. The programme was chaired by Moa Malaria Inspector. Pamphlets and Mosquito repellent cream was also distributed to the participants.
Mokokchung NRHM Media Officer, Olemienla in a press release informed that to mark the Anti Malaria month Free Malaria Blood test Clinic was set up on June 21 and 22 at Imlong place, Mokokchung. Out of 375 patients tested 21 were tested positive. Free medicines for prevention were also distributed at the clinic. It may be mentioned that awareness campaign is being carried out at 10 high risk villages in the district by collecting blood slide and distribution of pamphlets.

Dungki and Lamhai: Advocacy workshop on malaria, dengue and Japanese encephalitis was organised at Dungki and Lamhai village under the CMO of Peren District on June 21 with PHC Dungki staff along with Malaria Department, Health & family welfare, Nagaland in observance of Anti-Malaria months.
The programme was moderated by MO incharge of PHC Dungki Dr. Martha. She delivered on the issue of malaria, dengue, Japanese Encephalitis, signs and symptoms, mode of spread, prevention & protection of the disease, need of early detection and complete treatment, hygiene issue, awareness creation, etc. Local villagers, Village health committee members, youth and women organisations and Public leaders of the village participated in the programme.
The SISW from malaria department Jalukie carried out blood sample collection for testing of Malaria parasite total of 65 blood sample were collected and a total of 120 patients were treated the patient were distributed Anti-malarial drug and other medicines free of cost.

NVBDCP-Peren district: As part of the state anti-malaria month, NVBDCP-Peren district organised advocacy workshop and malaria clinics at 9th IR camp, Saijang on June 20. The district NVBDCP team presented a talk on control and prevention of malaria and treatment. RV Ezung (Commandant Incharge), Yanger Jamir (Adjudant) of 9th IR Bn also participated in the programme and about 62 patients tested their blood for malaria. Dr. Limatula Jamir, District Programme Officer and the staff of NVBDCP -Peren in a press release said that the programme was successfully conducted with the help and support of Dr. Mapu (RMO), Thipuzhoyi Tunyi(Quarter Master) of 9th IR Bn.
