Drive to sensitize medical staff on POCSO Act

Dimapur, May 29 (MExN): CHILDLINE Dimapur organized a sensitization programme with the District Hospital Dimapur medical staff on May 26 at the hospital’s Chapel Hall.

Attended by nurses and doctors of the hospital, the programme was held with an aim to sensitize the medical staff on the role of hospital and staff regarding medical examination of a child as per Protection of Children from Sexual Offence (POCSO) Act 2012, Chapter VI of section 27.

No medical practitioner, hospital or other medical facility centre rendering emergency medical care to a child victim shall demand legal or magisterial requisition or other documentation as a pre-requisite to render such care as per POCSO Act 2012, stated K. Ela, Director of CHILDLINE Dimapur & Prodigals’ Home. She also spoke on the legal provision, emergency medical care, medical examination, role of medical professionals, technique to help child relax and role of medical professional as expert witness.

She further gave suggestion on creating child friendly environment in the District Hospital of Dimapur like the child friendly corner in the Women Police Station, Dimapur. “The Dimapur District hospital could be the model and other district could replicate the same,” she said. Some suggestions for the child friendly hospital were put up to be further discussed with the hospital authority.
