Driver found dead near Nagaland-Assam border

In a shocking incident, Tuli police recovered the body of a person identified as one Guljar Ali, aged 25 from the rubber farms near Nagaland-Assam border under Tuli sub division, Mokokchung district on Wednesday.


According to police source, the deceased, a driver by profession was a resident of Halwating, near Amguri under Sibsagar district. Distance between Halwating and Tuli, both bordering towns of Assam and Nagaland is just 29 kilometers. Police source said the body which was recovered around 3 pm was found with a deep wound on his neck suspected to have been inflicted by a sharp weapon.


The deceased, who was driving a Mahendra Bolero on hire basis, was reported to have been taken towards Tuli area by unidentified passenger (s). The driver had not informed the owner of the vehicle nor his wife about his destination, police source citing preliminary investigation reports stated.


The Bolero vehicle meanwhile was recovered from Chuchuyimlang village area between Mokokchung town and Tuli highway around the same time the body of the deceased was recovered.


Police source said local hunters of the area noticed the abandoned vehicle below the road and informed the authorities. The body was handed over to family members after observing formalities. An investigation is also underway to nab the culprits (s), the police source added.


Following the incident, people from Nagaland planning to travel through Assam have been informed to take caution.
