‘Drug addicts need intervention not punishment’

Drug addiction mitigation & prevention highlighted at Mon DPDB meeting

 

Mon, February 15 (MExN): The Mon DPDB monthly meeting was held on February 15 at DC conference Hall, Mon under the chairmanship of Vice-Chairman DPDB & Deputy Commissioner, Mon Thavaseelan K, IAS. 

 


During the meeting, a DIPR report stated that Convenor, Committee on Drug Addiction Mitigation and Prevention (CoDAMP) Dr Chenjei Konyak highlighted on the activities of CoDAMP. He stated that CoDAMP was formed as a collective initiative of all frontal Konyak organisations to act as a nodal panel for all organisations working against substance abuse in the District to make concerted effort in one direction with one common objective. “Drug addicts need intervention and treatment and not punishment,” he stated. He also informed that, community supported detoxification camps of minimum one month have been conducting in all affected villages and towns.

 


Agenda on registration of student’s union library for S/Tangten Village and Charity begins at Home group, Chenwetnyu village was approved and recommended to the concerned department. The board also recommended for establishment of Village guard at Shingyu village and for creation of post at District Cultural Office, Mon in which the house apprised and recommended to the concerned department.

 


The house deliberated on the projects applicable to iconic project in Mon district including construction of marketing shed for organic agricultural products, amphitheatres, rostrums, children parks, Mini bridges, food processing unit, construction of multi-utility community halls-cum-indoor stadium, multi-tankers for water storage through water drilling, installation of agriculture product storage, street light connectivity for at least 2 to 3 villages eco-tourism etc. were  discussed and recommended to the government.

 


Pradhan Mantri Arogya Mitra & Pharmacist, District Hospital, Mon, Renthungo in his presentation stated that Ayushman Bharat which is PM-JAY aims at providing health insurance cover of Rs, 5 lakhs per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization for poor and vulnerable families. PM-JAY will help reduce catastrophic expenditure for hospitalization and will help mitigate the financial risk arising out of catastrophic health episode. Benefits of the scheme are portable across the country ie, a beneficiary can visit any empanelled public or private hospital for cashless treatment. He also spoke on the process to avail treatment under PM-JAY. He also informed on transaction management system report under Mon district where the number of patients treated till date are; District Hospital, Mon -760, CHC Tobu – 6 and PHC Changlangshu -84.

 


DC Mon Thavaseelan K, IAS informed the house that 10th Edition of Nagaland Veteran Inter-District Football Tournament will be held from February 25 to 29 at Mon and requested the members to co-operate for the success of the tournament.
