During the period July 2018 till date, the Excise (Narcotic Cell), Nagaland detected a total number of 20 cases, arrested 18 persons and seized various items worth Rs 67 lakh approximately.
Presenting a brief report on drug seizures during observation of International Day Against Drug Abuse & Illicit trafficking at Excise Conference Hall, Dimapur on June 26, Deputy Commissioner of Excise (Narcotic Cell), Nagaland, S. Chanlei Angh said detection was becoming more difficult since drug peddlers and drug users had become more aware of the law and knew how the enforcement personnel operates. He emphasized on the need to increase the number of informers where the issue of monetary incentives arises since the informers had to be paid for their inputs.
As per the report, the quantity of seizure during the last one year included Ganja – 505 kgs, Opium – 35 grams, Brown Sugar – 65 grams, Cough Syrup – 4157 bottles, Spasmo Proxyvon – 3, 00, 175 capsules and Nitrosun – 391 tablets.
Speaking about significance of the day, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Excise, Kevisetuo Angami spoke on the ill-effects of drug abuse both economically and health-wise. He called for citizens to be alert adding that controlling drug abuse was the responsibility of every right thinking citizen. Kevisetuo called upon all to rededicate themselves in the fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
