DTP, Okusa Toyota sensitize students on road safety

Dimapur, January 24 (MExN): Dimapur Traffic Police (DTP) and Okusa Toyota conducted two separate sessions respectively on road safety awareness for the students of Tetso College in the college premises on January 24.
It was held in a bid to address road safety issues among college going students, said a press release received here.
Dimapur Traffic Police personnel led by Inspector Peter Shuya, OC, Traffic Control (Zone II) provided information on safety measures for drivers. Speaking as the resource person, Shuya explained the history of how traffic came into existence while divulging statistics on the number of lives lost in road accidents.
Stating that 1.35 million people were killed in road accident related cases in the year 2016, Shuya asserted that road safety should be a primary concern irrespective of gender or age and called upon the students to be aware of, obey, and follow traffic regulations.
The OC educated the students on the meaning of various road signs and hand gestures made by traffic personnel. He further highlighted on the importance of wearing helmets for two-wheeler riders, carrying of driving license at all times, using of turn indicators, slowing down at intersections, minimal usage of car horn, and caring for roadside pedestrians.
To ease traffic congestion during rush hour, the traffic inspector suggested the option of carpooling or to make use of school or college buses. He also explained the use of traffic baton and breath analyzer and strictly warned the students against drunk-driving.
Meanwhile, representatives from Okusa Toyota, the authorized automobile dealer for Toyota in Dimapur, also conducted a session on road safety for Tetso students. During the session led by Rina Singh, a quiz based on road safety issues was organized where the students participated actively. All the winners were awarded with prizes sponsored by Okusa Toyota.
