Duncan Bosti Council stands for a ‘clean and fair election’

The Duncan Bosti Council (DBC), Dimapur resolved to ensure ‘clean and fair election’ within its jurisdiction on July 29.   The resolution was made during a programme on Clean Election organised by DBC along with GBs and Duncan Women Union (DWU) at Lotha Hoho-Ki, DC Court Junction here.  

On behalf of DBC, “I hereby endorse the Clean Election agreement between the NBCC and political parties in Nagaland and pledge to promote free and fair election and abide to the Model Code of Conduct of the Election Commission in the Duncan Colony,” declares the resolution.  

In this regard, the Council resolved to ensure clean and fair election under Ward 11 “without accepting money; without use of alcohol and drugs; without setting up camps; without force and threats; (and) without booth capturing and proxy voting.”  

The programme was observed as a response to Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation (DUCCF) and GBs union's call for all colonies to take initiative for Clean Election before July 31, informed Sentila T Yanger, DWU General Secretary, who chaired the programme.  

DABA Associate Pastor Imnatoshi Longkumer, who gave the keynote address at the event, gave a genesis of the Clean Election movement as well as the need for such initiative as a moral and spiritual duty. DBC Chairman Yangertoshi and River Belt Colony (RBC) Council Chairman Mepu Imchen also gave short speeches at the programme.  

RBC sets guidelines for clean election

Incidentally, RBC Council falls under Ward 11 and has already taken unanimous decision to follow Clean Election Campaign and adopted a set of guidelines in a joint meeting with the core-committee members of Clean Election movement in the colony.  

Among others, the guidelines include prohibition of party flags, posters, banner and billboards in institutional and public buildings; none distribution of intoxicants; prohibiting political parties to organise feast, buying of votes or setting up camps; and none declaration of majority support by the Council towards a particular candidate.  

Nyamo Lotha colony reiterates for clean election

Dimapur, July 29 (MExN): The Nyamo Lotha colony in Dimapur in its general meeting regarding Clean Election on July 28 reiterated that the colony will strongly stand for clean election. “The Nyamo Lotha colony always stood for clean election adhering to the call of NBCC in all the previous years (and) has once again reiterated that the colony will strongly stand for clean election,” a press release stated.  

The meeting was conducted in pursuance of the resolution adopted by DUCCF & GBs union joint meeting held on May 19 to “form colony clean election committee and to carry out respective colony meeting and declaration on abiding by the clean election pledge.” The Colony Chairman, Tsenthungo Lotha presided over the meeting and various colony members shared their support to the decision made in the meeting. It concluded with a mass prayer.
