DVYSO condemns miscreants causing forest fires at Keyake

DIMPAUR, APRIL 19 (MExN): The Dihoma Village Youth & Sports Organization (DVYSO) has condemned acts committed by certain individuals resulting in forest fires and affecting the livelihood of the people. 

A press release from the DVYSO informed that on April 8, at Keyake, some person(s) destroyed a vast area (Nyaphe, Sikhrizou range) of the village virgin forest, cultivated land, various project area such as tea plantation and many more, which continued for over three days.

Further, it informed that on April 14, another fire incident was reported at Dzüü area, engulfing to Vierü, Tsiecha, Teiheikha and covering some parts of the village inhabited area, thereby destroying many orange orchards, banana plantation, cash crops, tree plantation, virgin forest, firewoods, timber, huts, coffee plantation and more.

Despite community effort from the villagers, the fire could not be brought under control and has ablazed nearly 2000 hectares and the fire still spreading across, it stated.

The DVYSO said that the village has been enforcing strict ban on forest fire since the last decade “and therefore, the massive loss of our natural resources, cultivation and projects through this fire incidents needs special attention from the authority concerned.”

It further cautioned any person from practicing such activity within the village jurisdiction and warned that strict actions as per the law of the land will be taken.
