The Department of Youth Resources & Sports, Government of Nagaland has 25 sports coaches in 15 disciplines and 8 Physical Instructor of School at present.
The Department has 10 topmost priority disciplines where special emphasis is laid on football, archery, taekwondo, sepaktakraw, boxing, wrestling, athletics, badminton, table tennis and cricket.
This was stated in the Annual Administrative Report 2024-25 of the Department of Youth Resources & Sports, tabled by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio at the sixth session of 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly in Kohima on March 4.
The Department has 23 sports associations affiliated to the Nagaland Olympics Association namely, Archery Association, Athletics Association, Badminton Association, Basketball Association, Boxing Association, Football Association, Handball Association, Hockey Association, Kabbadi Association, Kho- Kho Association, Muay Thai Association, Rifle Association, Sepaktakraw Association, Softball Association, Table Tennis Association, Taekwondo Association, Tennis Association, Volleyball Association, Weightlifting Association, Wushu Association, Wrestling Association and Fencing Association.
The Department has two Sports Academies namely, Indira Gandhi Stadium (IGS), located at Kohima and the State Sports Academy located at Dimapur. These academies host students of six Olympic disciplines. At present there are 211 students enrolled in these academies, the report stated.
