DYRS hosts 1st inter KIC/KISCE boxing tournament 2025 in Kohima

The Department of Youth Resources & Sports, Nagaland, conducted the 1st inter Khelo India Centre/Khelo India State Centres of Excellence (KIC/KISCE) Boxing Tournament Under Junior-U-17/ Sub Junior U-14 (Boys & Girls) at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima on July 12.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Kethosituo Sekhose, Director, Youth Resources & Sports, Nagaland said that Nagaland state can too do extremely well in the field of boxing.
Over the years, he said, there is hardly any tournament in Boxing in Nagaland, adding that the 1st boxing tournament organized by the department today was a small step which “is going to take us a long way in the future.”

Sekhose said that a number of indoor multi-disciplinary stadiums are being developed in the state by government of the day under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio.
31 such stadiums will be completed and put in place by the end of the year, he said. “We are also looking at developing sports as an industry so that the vision of the country-Viksit Bharat 2047 is contributed through our sporting eco system,” Sekhose added. He also urged upon the sports lovers to maintain honesty and work hard to become world class sportspersons.

Youth Resources Officer (YRO) Viruokuo Zumu said “This tournament is more than just a competition. It is a celebration of discipline, sportsmanship and pursuit of excellence.”

He called upon the participants to continue to uphold the sports integrity throughout and continue to demonstrate the true essence of boxing.

Welcoming all the participants from Kohima and Wokha to the tournament, Zumu said “You have all trained hard, dedicated yourselves to this sport and pushed your limits to be here today. Your sheer passion and commitment is truly commendable. We are enthusiastically looking forward to witness your skills and process in the ring.”
