Menuosetuo Yiese wins best tactical wrestler

Dziesielatuo Keretsu today emerged as the coveted wrestling champion of the 11th Open Naga Wrestling meet here at Kohima Local Ground under the aegis of the Nagaland Wrestling Association.
29 years old, son of Khriezetuo Keretsu from Kohima Village, Keretsu downed Thupukutho Phesao of Yoruba village (Phek district) in the pre-quarter finals. He overpowered Niekhozo Keroh of Gidemi village (Phek district) in the quarter finals.
In semi finals, he downed Thekrusevi Meru of Khonoma village (Kohima district). He defeated strong opponent Menuosetuo Yiese in the finals to emerge as the champion.
Standing 5’11 and weighing 112 kg, Keretsu pocketed a cash prize of Rs. 1.50 lakh. Ist runners-up 18 years Menuosetuo Yiese pocketed a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh.
Son of Late Khrielatuo Yiese from Kohima Village and standing 6 feet and weighing 93 kg, Yiese found the final berth after defeating Besiihveto Cumu of Phusachodu village (Phek district) in the semi finals.
He downed Zasituo Tsukru of Dihoma village (Kohima district) and Neitseilie Zhiinyii of Sechiima village (Kohima district) in pre-quarter and quarter finals respectively.
Menuosetuo Yiese also won the best tactical wrestler title and was awarded with a cash prize of Rs. 10,000.
25 years Thekrusevi Meru bagged third position and pocketed a cash prize of Rs. 70,000.
Hailing from Khonoma village (Kohima district) and son of Late Vigwhehuto Meru, he downed Visietso Krose of Medziphema in pre-quarters and Petekuolie Nipu from Sechii (Kohima district) in quarter finals.
He was declared as third place winner after his opponent Besuhveto Cumu failed to make to the bout due to injury.
Besiihveto Cumu, son of Ziinieyi Cumu from Phusachodu village (Phek district) pocked a cash prize Rs. 50,000 for securing 4th position.
Cumu entered the quarter finals after defeating Veneto Nakro of Middle Khomi (Phek district) in the quarter finals. He found the semi final berth after defeating Vechita Khesoh of Yoruba village (Phek district) in the quarter finals.
Pre-quarter finalists Veneto Nakro, Keneiselie Khawakhrie, Thupukutho Phesao, Khrievotuo Sekhose, Zasituo Tsiikru, Visietso Krose, Seyiesalie Gwirie and Vevoshe Chiero pocketed Rs. 5000 each while quarter finalists Niekhozo Keroh, Petekuolie Nipu, Neitsielie Meru and Vechita Khesoh pocketed Rs. 10,000 each.
Altogether 66 wrestlers joined this 11th edition. Parveen Kumar from Delhi also participated in the meet including one wrestler from Konyak community (Y.N. Shanyong Konyak).
A belt wrestling demonstration also took place during break time.
MLA Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu graced the inaugural function as the chief guest while ex-minister and Nagaland Govt. Registered Class-I Contractors Union president Seyiekuolie Kesiezie was the guest of honour.
