Kohima, February 19 (MExN): Trekking activities to the Dzükou Valley have resumed after a devastating wildfire that ravaged the scenic locale for nearly 25 days was fully contained, the Office of the Southern Angami Youth Organisation (SAYO) informed on Thursday.

In a press release, SAYO President Zasitsolie Beio and General Secretary Keneisel Tetso in a press release said, “after a thorough assessment conducted by SAYO volunteers, in coordination with concerned authorities and supported by aerial inspection through helicopter services, it has been confirmed that the fire has been completely contained.” The valley is now considered safe for trekking, with necessary precautions put in place to ensure safety of visitors.

The Office expressed deep regret over the extensive damage caused by the wildfire, which resulted in significant loss to the valley’s natural flora, fauna and wildlife habitat. However, it remained hopeful for ecological recovery, noting, “Nature, in its resilience, promises renewal, and the anticipated sprouting of the seasonal wildflowers for which Dzükou valley is well known for.”

Reiterating previously implemented regulations, SAYO “strongly” reminded the public that a local tourist guide has been mandatory for all treks to Dzükou Valley since October 1, 2025. Trekkers not abiding by this guideline will be refused entry under any circumstances, it asserted.

The organisation also reminded the public that trekking after 3:00 PM during winter (October-March) and 4:00 PM during summer (April-September) remains strictly prohibited and is implemented till date.

While looking forward to continued public cooperation in preserving and safeguarding the valley, SAYO extended its sincere gratitude to all agencies, volunteers, and well- wishers who worked tirelessly to contain the wildfire and restore safe access to Dzükou Valley.
