Mon/Pughoboto/Phek, October 30 (DIPR): Secretary to the Government of Nagaland & Electoral Roll Observer for Pughoboto and Mon, Imjung M Panger (IAS), who was in Mon to oversee the ongoing electoral roll (e-roll) revision process, has emphasized on maintaining accurate e-roll. He was addressing a meeting with all assembly constituency level AEROs/ Supervisors/ Booth Level Officers of 46- Mon Town AC and political parties of Mon district on October 30 at conference hall of Deputy Commissioner, Mon.
Maintaining that the Election Commission of India is an independent body whose rules and regulations were made free from the influence of any political parties and government, he called upon the deputed government servants such as BLOs, Supervisors, AEROs etc. to strictly adhere to the guidelines set by the ECI and maintain clean and accurate e-roll. Basic requirement for a clean election is accurate e-roll, he asserted.
Panger further said that Mon district is one of the few districts where the ratio of the e-roll and population census is being maintained. He urged upon the election officials to be very careful and sincere in their duties and also asked the political parties to assist the ECI by convincing the public to file accurate details.
Meanwhile, he informed that the periods for claims and objections have been further extended till November 30, and that the BLOs are required to visit house to house as special drive from November 15 to 30.
W. Honje Konyak, Deputy Commissioner & District Election Officer, Mon emphasized that the BLOs should physically verify the electors who are aged 80 and above and strictly adhere to the ECI guidelines by using the format issued by the ECI while filling their details. He also suggested that the BLOs should make correction, if necessary.
Pughoboto: Panger also visited Pughoboto sub-division and held a meeting with the village leaders, different political parties, ERO, BLOs and Supervisors at the ADC office chambers on October 28.
The Observer stressed on the need to have a clean and accurate e-roll, which he said is the basis of clean and fair elections. Addition and deleting of voters should be done wherever necessary and while doing so, rules and guidelines as specified by the ECI should be strictly followed and adhered to, he stated. He also made an appeal for cooperation of all concerned during the whole revision process to ensure inclusion of all eligible voters, genuine voters and deletion of all dead/shifted/bogus voters.
ADC Avelu Ruho, who chaired the meeting, also highlighted on the ongoing e-roll revision in the division.
Phek: Electoral Roll Observer for Phek district & Commissioner & Secretary, Bendangkokba (IAS) held a meeting with all the political parties, BLOs/ AEROs/ Supervisors in the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Phek on October 27 and also at the office of the ADC, Meluri along with BLOs.
He highlighted the importance of e-roll revision and ongoing Special Summary Revision in keeping the electoral roll clean and fair.
Bendangkokba called upon the BLOs to conduct house to house physical verification, which is scheduled from November 15 to 30, with utmost sincerity and dedication. He appreciated the Election Branch, BLOs and political parties for bringing out a clean electoral roll as compared to other districts and encouraged to continue the same.
BLOs also shared with the Observer the difficulties and challenges faced in performing their duties. Representatives from different political parties present during the meeting expressed their satisfaction over the exercise carried out for electoral roll purification.
