EAC Chukitong urges youth to carry forward rich heritage

Wokha, March 2 (MExN): The Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), Wokha conducted a District Youth Convention and cultural programme at Town Hall, Wokha on February 29 with Echungbemo Erui, EAC Chukitong as the special guest. 100 youth from various youth clubs attended the programme.


The special guest, while addressing the youth spoke on the importance of preserving one’s own culture. He regretted the ignorance of the present generation and hoped that they would preserve the rich heritage and culture, a press release from John Makhab, DYC, NYK Wokha stated.


He also called upon the youth to carry forward the rich cultural heritage of our fore fathers by actively involving and practicing it.


He asked the youth participants to serve the society with an honest heart if one wishes to see the society develop or grow. The EAC also distributed sports materials to NYK affiliated youth clubs. 


Meribeni Patton, NYV exhorted the youth leaders present and spoke on the importance of their participation and cooperation in developmental programmes.  


John Makhabo, DYC, NYK, Kohima in his keynote address, stated that NYKS is the largest grassroots level organization in the world with 1.5 lakh youth clubs affiliated to it.


NYKS focuses on youth capacity building activities. He highlighted with power point presentations the essence of ideal leaders stating that they are there to serve the public, to be a visionary and bring hope to the people by sharing resources and take up what is affecting the common mass. 


The programme was enthralled by three cultural troupes - Hungjandaren Youth Club, Pangti village students, and Yingaren Youth Club. The programme was anchored by Longtsubemo, NYV while Meribeni Patton, NYV led the invocation.
