Longleng: The Eco Club of Mount Carmel School Longleng observed Earth Day under the National Green Corps Programme (NGCP). The programme was held along with the school’s annual CREST (Christ the root of education skills and transformation) programme.

A press release from Rusovil John, Member Secretary (NPCB) & State Nodal Officer (NGCP) informed that Tali Angh, proprietor of the school welcomed the resource persons and students and gave the highlights of the programme. Resource person Vimha Neikha, Junior Research Fellow from Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB) spoke on the importance of Earth Day stressing on the significance of the 4R’s of the environment—refuse, reuse, reduce and recycle. She also stressed that care for nature and environment should not be just limited to Earth Day, but should be an ongoing activity. “Care for nature and the environment today will have lasting implications for future generations and the sensitization and awareness to encourage such an attitude is the need for the younger generation,” she added.
Meanwhile, resource person Nividi, youth director of Town Baptist Church, Dimapur stated that the earth is the creation of God and we have the responsibility to care and nurture it as stewards.
Earth Day is an annual event observed on April 22 on which people around the world show their concern by taking up activities and raising public awareness about varieties of environmental issues including air pollution, water pollution, habited destruction, climate change etc.
