Earth fissures in Manipur’s Kangpokpi

Newmai News Network Imphal | July 19 Fresh earth fissures have appeared again in Kangpokpi district of Manipur. Reports said that earth fissures have appeared in Maphou Kuki village, Haijang village, Irang Part-II and in several places along the IT Road under Kangpokpi district.   As recent as last month massive earth-cracks had occurred at Kalikhola village and its adjoining village, around 5 km from Kangpokpi district headquarters, some 40 km north of Imphal.   Meanwhile, Manipur Social Welfare and Cooperation Minister Nemcha Kipgen today crossed the ‘heavy flowing Gundung (Imphal) river’ to reach out to those affected by earth fissures at Haijang Village and UJB School, Kangpokpi district and closely surveyed the affected areas.   During the visit, Nemcha said that public safety is of utmost priority now. "So experts will soon be deputed to assess the areas so as to avoid further damages and calamities like situation," the minister said. She assured all possible help for the affected people from the government’s side and urged them not to panic at the present prevailing situation.
