Earthquake mock drill held in Kiphire

Kiphire, September 25 (MExN): A district level mock drill simulating a 7.8 M earthquake was conducted by the 12 BN National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) in collaboration with the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Kiphire on September 24 in Kiphire.

As per the DIPR report, the exercise aimed to test and strengthen the district’s preparedness and response mechanisms in the event of a major earthquake.

The drill was preceded by a Tabletop Exercise (TTX) held on September 23, where response strategies, coordination mechanisms, and roles of all stakeholders were reviewed. During the simulation, various emergency scenarios such as evacuation, search and rescue, first aid, and relief camp management were carried out to ensure operational readiness.

Representatives from all key stakeholders and departments actively participated in the exercise. In his feedbacks, observer of the Mock Drill, Major Rayat 14 Assam Rifle, Kiphire suggested on involvement of more local participants in the drill. He stated that the strength of NDRF, Assam Rifle and the Police alone is not sufficient during the aftermath of Disaster, and encouraged active involvement of locals for prompt disposal of rescue tasks.

While debriefing the programme, DC Kiphire extended appreciation to all the team and department involved in the drill. He also informed that the upcoming mock drill to be held probably in the month of November this year would be in large scale, and said that schools and colleges will be involved.
