Dimapur, November 1 (MExN): The East Dimapur Town Council (EDTC) on October 31 directed the business establishments, shops and commercial institutions under its jurisdiction not to provide or issue CCTV footage to any individual or group without the proper and legal authorization from the concerned department or the competent authority.
In a press release issued by the EDTC, it stated that the directive was issued to maintain confidentiality, public safety and legal integrity in handling recorded surveillance data.
The council warned that any unauthorized sharing, distribution, or use of CCTV footage shall be treated as a violation of data protection norms and that doing so would attract appropriate legal action.
Likewise, it directed all business owners and responsible persons to strictly adhere to the instruction and cooperate with the authorities when legally required to furnish such footage through proper channels only.
Furthermore, it also banned the sale of any kind of calendar, lottery, coupon, or similar items to business establishments within the East Dimapur Town Council area without proper authorization from the competent authority.
It stated that the measure was taken to prevent the illegal collection and to maintain proper order and transparency within the town jurisdiction.
‘Any person or group found violating this directive shall be dealt with as per the relevant rules and regulations,’ it stated.
