The Kohima Educational Trust (UK) and Kohima Education Society (Nagaland) today announced the winners of the first Gordon Graham Prize for Naga Literature (GGPNL). Easterine Kire was named as winner in Fiction category for her novel ‘When the River sleeps’ while Kethoser Aniu Kevichusa won the Non-Fiction category for her book – ‘Forgiveness and Politics.’
This GGPNL was instituted in order to recognize and reward the knowledge keepers and idea givers in Naga society and to encourage and promote reading and writing within the Naga community.
It is intended to give visibility to rational discourse in society and to help bring the thinking elements in Naga society to play more effective role the larger life of the community and society. On November 25, 2018, the first set of judges of the GGPNL had shortlisted the entries to eight books in two different categories of Fiction and Non-Fiction and handed them over to three independent judges from among well-known authors and intellectuals, to select the final winners.
After lengthy deliberations, the independent judges, who had no connections with KET/KES unanimously selected the two authors- Easterine and Kethoser. A prize of Rs 100,000 cash along with a certificate will be presented to each of the winners by Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio and the Managing Trustee and CEO Sylvia May at a function on April 9 at Hotel Vivor Kohima.
