Easterine Kire visits Sazolie College

Kohima, July 7 (MExN): Eminent Naga writer and winner of the Hindu Award 2015, for her book, “When the River Sleeps”, visited Sazolie College, Phezhu, Jotsoma, on July 4.  

Kire interacted with the faculty and staff of the College, and also signed her books for them. She encouraged the students to cultivate the habit of reading and also urged them to write as often as possible in order to hone their writing skills.  

She dwelt on the importance of collecting and documenting the oral narratives and folklore of the Nagas, and urged the students to do the same. Kire also gave a brief introduction of her books acquainting the gathering of the settings and background of her stories. In her response to a query about what drives her and gratifies her most as a writer, she told that it was meeting and interacting with her readers.  

Later, she also took a special class for B. A Semester III, English Honours students, who currently are studying her book “A Terrible Matriarchy” in their honours paper.
