Lahe, July 29 (MExN): The Eastern Konyak Union (Myanmar) on Saturday paid tribute to the departed NSCN (K) Chairman SS Khaplang.
The union recalled late Khaplang spending time in Konyak area in 1997-98 to set up his organization for the cause of the Naga people and stated that the people in Eastern Konyak area – both young and old – knew him “very well”.
It added that Konyaks living in border areas have already sacrificed a lot in every way possible for Naga sovereignty, and further revealed that the people are still facing severe problems every day.
“We are neither proper part of Indian nor Myanmar indigenous people,” it said and added that they continue to be deprived of basic human necessities since they have not allowed any government development. They expect “only Naga’s independence,” the union stated and expressed hope that the spirit of late Khaplang will lead the new leaders to stand in strength in days to come.
