Decries ‘blame game’ of the government and the department
Dimapur, May 15 (MExN): The ENCSU today expressed shock over the "cheap and lame excuses” of the Parliamentary Secretary Higher &Technical Education over the problems facing higher education in Eastern Nagaland.
The Union strongly reject such blame game's statement and reaffirmed our Memorandum submitted on 5 April, 5 2017 and press release issued on May 14, the Eastern Nagaland College Students' Union said in a strongly worded rejoinder to the Parliamentary Secretary’s statement.
Among other, the Parliamentary Secretary have cited an ongoing court case, procedural delay and a moratorium on creation of new jobs by the government as some reasons for insufficient faculty and provision of transportation in the eastern districts.
The Parliamentary Secretary should know that the colleges in Eastern Nagaland are not new and talking about creation of new posts now is nothing but trying to divert attention from the core issues, ENCSU further stated in its rejoinder issued by its Chairman Longre Chang and Joint Secretary Angth.
What were the government and the department doing without creating required number of posts for the many past years? ENCSU further questioned adding that such excuses can't be “accepted and tolerated under any circumstances.”
Further stating that the Union has “no business in whether the Finance Department has restricted the HTE department from creating posts or not” it said, “Our need is regular teachers.”
In this regard, the Union further reiterated its demand of filling up all the “vacant posts before the next semester” “Failing which the ENCSU will stand with its decision not to allow any colleges within its jurisdiction to function,” it added.
On the issue of posting of Principal, the ENCSU also reiterated that the government and the department should take an immediate action and post the Principal at Yingli College, Longleng who can be practically and physically present in the College.
“The ENCSU wants to inform the government and the department that Eastern Nagaland isn't a waste bin for the Government of Nagaland,” it said.
The Union had also demanded buses for all the four colleges in Eastern Nagaland, not only for Zisaji Presidency College. Therefore, the government and the department have to treat all the colleges equally, ENCSU further pointed out.
Maintaining that students from 4 districts studying in government institutions have been discriminated and treated unfairly for many past years creating huge gap from students in other colleges, the ENCSU expressed hope that the government and the department “will do Justice in action and not in paper only.”
“The ENCSU being a stakeholder for degree students of Eastern Nagaland will not compromise the interest of the students under any circumstances,” it added.
