The Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Union Mokokchung (ENPUM), celebrated its golden jubilee on the theme ‘Build a prolific community’ on December 15 at Town Hall Mokokchung with Metsubo Jamir, Minister, Rural Development as the special guest and Rev Chingmak Chang, Secretary, Eleutheros Christian Society (ECS) as the jubilee speaker.
Metsubo Jamir, in his address, said that the jubilee was like a homecoming for him because of his long association with the Eastern people. He went on to say that the association of the Eastern people with the Aos goes way beyond 50 years, and that the fifty years jubilee was celebrated to commemorate the formation of an organisation.
He thanked the Eastern Nagas for their contributions and hoped that the union would have added more members as it celebrates the platinum jubilee. He also said that he personally and morally supports the demand of the Eastern Nagas saying that it is a legitimate demand, ‘a demand which could have been started earlier.’
“As a Naga, it hurts to see Nagas being divided,” he said. “But you are second to none my Eastern Naga brothers and sisters. We are all equal, you may be backward infrastructurally, but academically and intellectually we are not backward. Be proud of who you are because you are all so much better than many other Naga tribes,” he further added.
The jubilee speaker Rev Chingmak Chang noted that the EMPUM was celebrating its jubilee at a very critical time when the ENPO was demanding for a frontier Nagaland. He said that no matter how much we plan, be it about Naga solution or Frontier Nagaland, unless the Lord builds the house, the outcome might not be fruitful.
He went on to state that there is lack of honesty among Naga people and that Nagas are never honest. Nagaland being the worst performing state in the country was proof of that. He concluded by saying that all plans are absolutely useless if God hands are not in the plans.
Earlier, the welcome address was given by Y Among Yim, President, ENPUM while Langshi Khiamniungan, the first president of ENPUM, also spoke as a pioneer. The jubilee souvenir was unveiled by the special guest at the same programme.
Jubilee Greetings were also conveyed by Tsapikyu Sangtam, President, ENPO and R Ayim Longkumer, on behalf of Ao Senden while former MP K Asungba Sangtam gave a solidarity speech.
S Pangnyu Phom, Minister, Health & Family Welfare and Tongpang Ozukum, Minister, Housing & Mechanical attended the second session as the special guest and guest of honour respectively.
The second session was followed by music and entertainment featuring Dreamz Unlimited and various artists.
