Eastern Nagaland Women’s Organisation 5th general conference underway in Longkhim

Longkhim, August 17 (MExN): The Eastern Nagaland Women’s Organisation (ENWO) convened its 5th General Conference under the theme ‘Women Beyond Barriers’ in Longkhim Town on August 17 and 18. The event was graced by Member of Parliament and Vice Chairperson of Rajya Sabha, S Phangnong Konyak, as the special guest, stated a DIPR report.

Addressing the distinguished gathering, S Phangnong Konyak extended a call to the women of Eastern Nagaland, urging them to embrace unity, forgiveness, and solidarity among the ‘7 Sisters’ of the region. She emphasized the paramount importance of peace and encouraged the women to exemplify the role of peacemakers in the Eastern region, it stated.

She underlined the region’s unique blend of developmental challenges and cultural richness, emphasizing the need to preserve the heritage and values embedded within the tradition. In her remarks, she stressed the significance of women’s participation in politics as a means to shape policies and foster comprehensive development. She commended the efforts of the Modi Government in empowering women and encouraged the womenfolk to seize the opportunities for their advancement.

During the event, the MP inaugurated an exhibition showcasing the work of ENWO Units and released the ENWO magazine. Noteworthy personalities including Deputy Commissioner, Tuensang Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa (NCS), ENPO President R Tsapikiu Sangtam, Special Transport Officer Alem Bashang, and Brigadier of 7 Sector Assam Rifle, Tuensnag, Vikram Singh, delivered succinct speeches. Greetings were pronounced by AST President, Apila Sangtam, while the welcome address was delivered by ENWO President, A Shamthai Phom. The event commenced with invocation by LTBC Pastor Dr Longri and concluded with a benediction by YWO President, Resangla Susana.

The conference featured a range of engaging activities, including a folk fusion performance by Changsao Thangjam Setshang, a lullaby by Khiamniungan Menyiu Hoikam, and a captivating folk song presented by Tikhir Women Association. The proceedings were chaired by Joint Secretary of ENWO.
