Eastern Panoroma sets its foot in Nagaland

Dimapur, Oct 27 (MExN): Eastern Panorama, a monthly news magazine of North East India and published from Shillong, today launched its Nagaland Bureau at an impressive function that was graced by Kheto Sema Honourable Minister Information and Public Relations as Chief Guest, besides a host of media persons from the North East. 

Into its fifteenth year of publication the Nagaland Bureau office is headed by Noël Manuel as Bureau Chief.

A brief function at Christ’s Hall, Holy Cross School premises was attended by the Editor of Eastern Panorama, Dr Jhunjhunwala, Editor of Nagaland Post, Geoffery Yaden, the Managing Director of The Morung Express, Aküm Longchari and many other prominent media and intellectual personalities. 

Stressing on the importance of the role and challenges of the Media in modern society the Chief Guest, Kheto Sema, Minister of Forests and IPR while talking about the papers in the state said that over the years there has been a constant increase in readership, because of tremendous improvement in the quality and quantity of the news. He also urged the media to walk hand in hand with the DAN government in order to fulfill the aspirations of the people. Wishing Eastern Panoroma all the best in its endeavour, the minister expressed hope that the monthly magazine would highlight issues that would transform society.

Akum Longchari, Managing Director of The Morung Express, called upon the media fraternity to don a more pro-active role and trust in the power of the truth. “The power of the truth lies in each one of you,” he said and called on the media fraternity to make informed decision in matters relating to important issues. “This would strengthen society and the ethos of society” he reminded.

Editor of Eastern Panorama, Dr Jhunjhunwala said that the Nagaland Bureau was the third branch office after Gangtok and Gauwathi. He said that Dimapur was the ideal choice for their office because the idea was not only to cover Dimapur and Kohima alone, but also the state of Manipur.

Noël Manuel, the New Bureau Chief of the news magazine said that the role of media has become bigger which means journalists also have a more responsible role to play in reporting different issues confronting the  society. He pledged that the Eastern Panorama would report news with the highest degree of truth. Noël Manuel also paid rich tribute to Geoferry Yaden, Editor of the Nagaland Post, where he had first worked and started his career as a journalist. He acknowledged the advice and constant encouragement from the editor, which Noël said had inspired him to come this far.

The new Bureau chief, Noël Manuel who is a Poet, a phonetics teacher and a freelance Journalist attached with The Morung Express, received high words of congratulations and hope of success from the dignitaries who attended the programme.
