Eastern tribal bodies flay threat to YTC President

Dimapur, November 19 (MExN): The five tribal bodies of Eastern Nagaland have condemned the threat on the life of Yimchunger Tribal Council (YTC) President by one Mukhe, finance member of Khango-led NSCN (K).

The five tribal bodies which consist of Chang Khulei Setshang (CKS), Khiamniungan Tribal Council (KTC), Konyak Union (KU), Phom Peoples’ Council (PPC) and United Sangtam Likhum Pumji (USLP) stated in a press release that it is in line with the ENPO landmark Resolution No. 2 adopted on December 18 2007.

There, it resolved that there should be no threat, intimidation, undue disturbances in any manner on public leaders and the innocent public. The bodies asserted ‘threat of this nature have absolutely no place in our society.’

The Presidents further said that tribal leaders in and around the state must be allowed to work without fear of intimidation, and nobody should feel threatened as a result of the work they do for common interest of the people. “Any threat to a tribal leader who works in the interest of peace and tranquility in the region is a direct attack to the public’s right to live in peace and harmony,” the release stated.

It has further supported Yimchunger Tribal Council’s decision and asked the concerned authority to initiate appropriate action at the earliest.
