Chümoukedima, May 31 (MExN): The Principal Secretary of Election Commission of India, NT Bhutia completed his official visit to Nagaland from May 29 to June 1.
As per the DIPR report, the Principal Secretary held an interaction with BLOs, DC& DEO, Chümoukedima at DC’s Conference Hall, Chümoukedima on May 31.
During the interaction, the officials from Chümoukedima and Niuland district deliberated the matters and problem faced during the conduct of elections, especially absence of DEO and suggested to create a separate DEO in Niuland district for smooth functioning during election. They also highlighted on limited infrastructure, and manpower.
In response, Bhutia appealed the officers to plan out what is needed and submit to the Commission. He assured to see their matters and take initiative with the Commissions to boarder the vision of further strengthening the electoral process in accordance with the existing legal framework.
On his visit to the polling station at Ghaspani-l and Ghaspani-ll, he interacted with the officers and urged them to carry out their duties thoroughly by updating the voter list and to ensure that all the eligible voters are included in the voters list. Also he checked on the facilities available and asked on the issues and problem they faced.
He also visited some polling stations in Dimapur I & II and held discussions with the Deputy Commissioner & District Election Officer regarding election arrangements and the role of BLOs. He reviewed the election preparedness and interacted with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) in Dimapur district. BLOs assigned to the respective polling stations were present and interacted with the visiting officer.
Earlier, the Principal Secretary held a meeting with Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Nagaland Bhagyashree Banayat and her team of officers at her office chamber on May 30.
According to a press release issued by the CEO Nagaland, the meeting reviewed matters related to the conduct of elections, the Special Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls, manpower, IT infrastructure, and office buildings.
