Wokha, June 24 (MExN): An Eco-Carp Hatchery was set up at New Wokha Village under CSS Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) and was inaugurated on June 22 by the Director of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources Rongsennungba.
The hatchery, though the technology concept is from the Chinese Eco-Fish Hatchery, is the first-ever indigenously built hatchery in Nagaland and will help to cater to the demands of fish seeds, particularly in Wokha district, a DIPR report stated.
Director Rongsennungba stated that the availability of quality seeds of cultivable freshwater fish species has always been felt for intensification of fish production in the State. He said fish seeds are indispensable and the means of obtaining them directly influences farm production.
Noting that limited number of fish seed production farms has resulted in lesser production of fry/fingerlings, thereby causing a gap in demand and supply, he maintained that the development of the project was to meet the requirements of fish seed production in the State instead of procuring from neighbouring states.
The inaugural function was chaired by Joint Director, Fisheries & Aquatic Resources, Ketusielie Angami, while vote of thanks was proposed by DFO, Wokha Rulanthung Ezung, the report stated.
